All-on-four is an option where the custom made denture is screwed into the implants and can only be removed by Dr. Kimmelman. This is the “stays-in” option. Dr. Kimmelman uses a much more life-like and stronger material than most other dental offices. The screwed-in teeth are made of zirconia. Because of the superior strength of the zirconia vs. acrylic teeth, they are much smaller, less bulky and made to last unlike acrylic teeth over metal bars.
If all your upper or lower teeth are missing, four to six implants may be used to support a screwed-in zirconia denture. This allows the patient to have their palate (roof of their moth) exposed for more comfort in an upper denture and much better chewing function with a stay-in denture.
The dental implants are positioned below the gum tissue and given time to heal and fuse with the bone. Your existing denture may be modified so that it can be worn without disturbing the implants during the healing period.
After the healing period, you will be fitted for a new denture or custom zirconia teeth. The zirconia teeth have many excellent properties being stronger & having a more natural appearance than traditional acrylic or plastic dentures.
The new denture or custom zirconia teeth are stronger than the typical plastic/acrylic teeth and even the traditional ceramics/porcelain. The zirconia teeth will have attachments which will then be screwed into place on the dental implants. Your new teeth are now firmly supported by the jaw giving you greater chewing & speaking ability, in addition to stimulating the jaw bone and significantly reducing bone loss. Unlike typical dentures, All- on-Four implants are screwed in and “stay-in” only being removed twice a year for cleanings by Dr. Kimmelman.
Zirconia teeth feel like your natural teeth and because of their strength, you can use them like natural teeth, unlike typical acrylic or plastic dentures.
