Brace-like appliances were found on Egyptian Mummies. So, the need to restore the alignment of teeth is not a new concept. What is a fairly new concept, however, is the ability to correct alignment without the need to wear traditional braces. One option is ClearCorrect, which is a system of removable, virtually invisible aligners. The ClearCorrect system may be appealing for aesthetic reasons, but how comfortable are these aligners?

Gradual Realignment = Increased Comfort

ClearCorrect works by gradually moving your teeth to the correct position with the use of a series of several clear aligners. These removable aligners, which are normally worn for about three weeks at a time before a change is made, slowly shift teeth. Because the movement is gradual, you are more likely to be comfortable while your aligners are in your mouth.

Aligners Prepared with Comfort in Mind

The aligners used for the ClearCorrect system are custom-made. This means they are created based on your unique mouth and teeth characteristics. This absolutely increases your odds of being able to comfortably insert and remove your aligners. On our end, the process starts with obtaining impressions, photographs, and radiographs of your teeth. If ClearCorrect is right you, a prescription for custom-made aligners will be provided as well.

This information is then sent by our dental staff to the ClearCorrect laboratory. This is where a 3-D model of your teeth is made based on the information that was sent to the ClearCorrect lab. Your comfort is front and center during the entire aligner creation process since a very precise model is used to create the aligners. Your new aligners are provided in sets.

Your Treatment Plan Is Mapped Out

Another way that ClearCorrect focuses on comfort is by mapping out your entire treatment plan. This will give you an idea of how the aligners will gradually realign or reposition your teeth to the proper position. Our dental team will also be able to provide input as each set of aligners are made. Because the ClearCorrect team uses the latest molding and digital mapping technology, your aligners should be a perfect fit for your mouth.

Allow Yourself a ‘Getting Used to’ Period

It may take you a few days or so get used to wearing your aligners. During this time, you might have a slight lisp. However, most patients do reach a point where the aligners go in and out without easily without any issues. If you do experience any initial discomfort that’s not going away, let us know so proper adjustments can be made.

Follow Your Recommend Wear Schedule

You are more likely to have a comfortable and pleasant experience with your ClearCorrect aligners if you follow the wear schedule that’s recommended for you. Generally, you will be wearing your aligners all the time. The only exceptions are typically when you are eating or drinking or cleaning your teeth.

If you begin to take out your aligners at other times, your teeth may shift when the aligners are not in for long periods of time. If this happens, the aligners may not fit correctly when worn again. For this reason, it’s important to stick to your recommended wearing schedule.

The good news is many people can benefit from the comfortable and appealing ClearCorrect aligner system. Both teens and adults tend to be suitable candidates for this dental realignment solution. While children who may not yet have all their molars and seniors may have more complicated dental care needs, these patients may still benefit from ClearCorrect.
