If a person has to get dentures they may be afraid they will not be able to eat some of their favorite foods. They may feel like some things are offer limits. If a person takes care of their dentures they can eat most of the same foods they enjoy.

Eating with New Dentures
If a person has just gotten dentures they will need to give the mouth some time to adjust to them. The gums may be sore for a couple of days. While the mouth is adjusting to the dentures a person may want to eat some soft foods. They can have oatmeal, pudding, mashed vegetables, and yogurt. This is only for a few days until the mouth is no longer sore.

Once the mouth has adjusted to the feel of dentures a person can go back to eating a variety of foods.

Slow-Cooked Meals
Slow-cooked meals are often soft and when the meat has been cooking low and slow it becomes tender and has great flavor. These foods will not harm the dentures and a person can even enjoy a piece of brisket.

Ground Meats
These meats are not tough and they can be used in many different recipes. Ground beef and ground turkey can be used to make a variety of meals.

Chocolate
A person will not have to give up their sweet tooth. A person should watch out for chocolate with added nuts and toffee. They can have a piece of chocolate and their dentures will be fine.

Ripe Fruits
When fruits are ripe they are softer and easier to eat. Many people say they are also sweeter. Ripe peaches, bananas, and mangos and some of the fruits that a person can enjoy.

Cooked Vegetables
When the vegetables are good the texture becomes softer. There are many vegetables out there that a person will not get bored with all of the different choices.

Foods to Avoid
There are some foods that a person should not eat with dentures. They may cause damage to the denture.

Sticky Foods
Candy and gum that is stick will stick to the dentures. They will be hard to get out and can irritate the guns,

Hard Foods
Hard food will require that the jaw apply uneven pressure to chew them. This can damage the dentures and may even cause them to come out. A person should limit their intake of popcorn, nuts, and carrot sticks.

When a person has dentures they can still enjoy their favorite foods. It may take a couple of days for the mouth to get used to the dentures before a person can eat as normal. As long as a person is careful there are very few off-limits foods. If interested in learning more about permanent dentures, click here.
